Happy Halloween Folks!
Even though my family doesn't exactly celebrate halloween, every year I do dress up for the holiday. I really do enjoy trialing some spooky make up for this day. Last year I did a slit throat using just eyeliners and eyeshadow. This year I wanted to try something more on the 'special effects' side of halloween make up, so I thought I would try a stitched up mouth look.
The first step I did was draw a line extending my mouth to get the overall shape of the mouth. I just did this using black eyeliner.
Once I was happy with the shape I worked on darkening the eyes using a variety of brown and black eyeshadows. I also used white eyeshadow around my face to highlight and make myself appear more pale. Then with the eyes, I used grey and black eyeshadow to create a tear effect running down my face. They didn't turn out quite as I hoped so a better result would be to do less 'drips' or lines and make the lines less even and more squiggly.
With the eyes finished, I moved onto the mouth. I thought it needed some bruising. I used red eyeshadow and messily brushed it on for the best affect. I also added some blues and purples near the actual 'cut' to create more depth.
I think this here is a great look on it's own! It's a great halloween make up look, but I really wanted this to look more gory, so I continued.
From here, I added black dots around my mouth to make stitch holes. This is where the special effects came in. For the stitches, I just used thin black thread and eyelash glue. Working from the top dots to the bottom ones, I cut a long piece of tread and stuck one end onto the 'hole' with the eyelash glue, stuck the rest of the thread onto the next hole and trimmed it off to tidy up the stitch. Then I just repeated this step until I had covered the whole mouth area. WARNING...If you do want to be able to talk and move your mouth at all, as you glue down the thread, open your mouth a bit because then you will get the correct length of thread.
Then I added some fake blood using a skewer onto the holes and cut and TADA, The halloween look was complete! Another idea I had planned to do (but ran out of time) was to a scarecrow inspired look with this by drawing up a triangular nose patch and using the stitch technique to 'stitch' the patch on.
I'm super happy with how this turned out! It turned out better than I had expected it would! I love creating gory characters and this is the best outcome I have had so far!
I hope you all had a great and safe halloween and please enjoy these pictures of me trying to pose creepy.
